Reason #573 Why I Am Living in China
America continues to cheer the decay of its infrastructure under the guise of tax reduction, while China invests in better transportation. The kind of transportation that once upon a time fueled America’s prosperity and is now aiding China’s economic development.
According to the New York Times, Florida recently canceled a proposed high speed rail link between the cities of Tampa and Orlando in a ploy to garner support from members of the public who fear higher taxes.
While this is going on, Shanghai is now planning to upgrade what is already the largest metro rail system in the world by adding higher speed trains. Shanghai Metro Line 22, scheduled to begin operation in November, will have a top speed of 160 km/h, compared to the current metro speed of 50-70 km/h.
At present, Metro trains travel at between 50 and 70km/h. Line 22 will connect suburban Jinshan district with Xuhui district near the city centre.
